This is a work in progress, a labor of love. While much of the information is based on significant evidence, some comes from other researchers and some is based upon educated guesswork awaiting additional supporting evidence. It is shared here in the interest of collaborative research. Bearing in mind that nothing is ever "proven," only supported by more or less reliable evidence, you must conduct your own research to satisfy yourself about the verity of each bit of information as it relates to your interests. We welcome corrections and additional information, and look forward to hearing from anyone interested in any aspect of this database. We are fortunate to have access to an excellent collection of family documents related to Greenwood plantation in Montgomery County, Texas. These records provide a picture of daily life on the plantation from 1850 to 1866, and also some insight into the larger scheme of things, useful in our research related to the town of Danville and the surrounding counties. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: In particular, we owe a great debt of gratitude to Harwood Douglas Ponton (1919-2007) and his mother and grandmother who served over the years as faithful custodians of precious family documents, photographs and other memorabilia; and also to cousins Sam Madeley Wood (1933-2011), Marcus Hammond Mallard (1936-2013), Henry Campbell "Cam" Wood and Sallie Watkins Wood Millsap, who have pursued, collected, recorded and compiled historical details that have established a solid foundation for the family.
