Jack Ferrell Ross

- Mother: Temperence Ferrell b. 15 October 1760, d. 30 August 1823
- Jack Ferrell Ross was born on 29 October 1791 in Franklin County, North Carolina.
- He married Anne Amelia Fisher, daughter of George Fisher and Catherine Sossaman, on 11 February 1817 in St. Stephens, Washington County, Mississippi Territory (later Alabama).
- Jack F. Ross was appointed first Territorial Treasurer and when the State was admitted to the Union, he was chosen by the legislature, in 1819, to succeed himself as first State Treasurer.
- The following appeared on 9 January 1819 in The Halcyon and Tombeckbe Public Advertiser: Take Notice. I expect to be absent from St. Stephens for some few weeks to come, during which time I have appointed Mr. Charles Meliss my agent, and shall leave my books and papers in his possession, and must request all persons indebted to me to come forward and settle their respective accounts with my agent. As the misfortune which has recently befallen me is generally known, I am in hopes my customers will take into consideration the necessity of my making speedy collections. Mr. Meliss will at all times be found aat my residence in Rodney, the house formerly occupied by Col. Fisher. 1st. Jan. 1818.
- Isaac Ross of Franklin Co deed to Jack F. Ross of St. Stephens, AL Terr. and Green Ross of the county and state aforesaid for land in Franklin Co; deed made to Green Ross and Rusha Ross by the request of Jack F. Ross; Temperance Ross, mother of the contracting parties, was to enjoy the premises for her lifetime.
- The following appeared on 7 June 1819 in The Halcyon and Tombeckbe Public Advertiser: Notice. Letters of Administration on the estate of John Farris, dec'd. were granted to the undersigned on the third Monday of April last. All persons indebted to the said estate, will be pleased to make immediate payment; and those having claims against it, will present them within the time required by law, otherwise they will be forever barred. - The following appeared on 20 December 1819 in The Halcyon and Tombeckbe Public Advertiser: We have but little news from Huntsville -- The mail has not commenced running. The elections had all taken place, Thomas A. Rogers esq. is elected Secretary of State -- Saml. Pickens esq. Auditor, and Capt. Jack F. Ross Treasurer.
- Jack Ferrell Ross became a widower at the 26 August 1826 death of his wife Anne Amelia Fisher.
- He married Mary Tabb Bolling, daughter of Thomas Tabb Bolling and Seignora Peyton, on 1 November 1827 in Madison County, Alabama.
- The following appeared on 29 November 1827 in the Raleigh North Carolina Star: [Married] In Madison Co, AL, on the 8th ult., Capt. Jack F. Ross, of Mobile, and formerly of Franklin Co, in this state, to Mrs. Mary Tabb.
- Jack Ferrell Ross died on 12 October 1837 at age 45 in Mobile, Alabama, of yellow fever.
- His wife Mary Tabb Bolling became a widow at his death.
- He was interred at Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.
