• Willliam Polk Hardeman was born on 4 November 1816 in Williamson County, Tennessee.
• He was known as Gotch.
• He married Rebecca Amanda F. Wilson on 13 February 1842 in Matagorda County, Texas.
• Willliam Polk Hardeman and Rebecca Amanda F. Wilson appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Caldwell County, Texas. Other members of the household included Clara Rebecca Hardeman and Emma Susan Hardeman.
• He was a farmer, according to the 1850 census.
• Willliam Polk Hardeman became a widower at the 15 October 1853 death of his wife Rebecca Amanda F. Wilson.
• He married Sarah Ann Hamilton, daughter of John C. Hamilton and Ann B. Good, on 28 December 1857 in Caldwell County, Texas, And Sarah's sister Tully married William Polk's brother Leonidas Hardeman.
  
• The following appeared on 30 January 1858 in the Texas State Gazette: William P. Hardeman married on the 28th December last, at the residence of the bride's father, by Rev. W. T. Wright, to Miss Sallie A. daughter of J. C. Hamilton, Esq. of Prairie Lea, Texas.
• Willliam Polk Hardeman and Sarah Ann Hamilton appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Seguin PO, Guadalupe County, Texas, and carpenter James M. Glasgow.. Other members of the household included Clara Rebecca Hardeman, Emma Susan Hardeman, Thomas Johnston Hardeman and John Hamilton Hardeman.
• He was a farmer, according to the 1860 census.
• Willliam Polk Hardeman became a widower at the 6 November 1869 death of his wife Sarah Ann Hamilton.
• Emma Susan Hardeman and Joseph Crawford Roberts appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Seguin PO, Guadalupe County, Texas. Other members of the household included Willliam Polk Hardeman, Thomas Johnston Hardeman, John Hamilton Hardeman, Tullius Leonora Hardeman and Will Ella Hardeman.
• He married Mary Elizabeth Collins on 2 February 1874.
• Willliam Polk Hardeman and Mary Elizabeth Collins appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Houston, Harris County, Texas.
• Willliam Polk Hardeman died on 8 April 1898 at age 81 in Austin, Travis County, Texas.
• He was interred at Texas State Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.
• Research Note: The marriage license issued to John Wesley Campbell and Cora Hardeman is evidence of her surname. Apparently "Early Days in Luling" is in error that "Cora Hardeman" was a daughter of William Polk "Gotch" Hardeman. It is an educated guess that she is "C. C. Hardeman" found in the 1860 household of his brother Thomas Monroe Hardeman, likely his daughter and not his niece, based on the birthdates of W. P. Hardeman's children of record. The deaths of her mother and father in the early sixties no doubt contributed to the confusion about her parentage.
