- =====================
Dr. Thomas Tillman Tolson was born in about 1829 in Alabama. He completed his medical education and became a practicing physician prior to 1850. He was married on 5 June 1849 to Mary Ann Tribble, daughter of George W. and Patsy Tribble. The couple was residing with George Tribble in Lincoln County, Kentucky, in 1850, where Dr. Tolson was practicing. Before 1860, they moved to Noxubee County, Mississippi. There, Thomas was enumerated as a farmer with considerable wealth. By 1864, Dr. Tolson had moved his family to the area of Danville, Montgomery County, Texas. His taxable property was rendered as being nineteen Negroes and $500 in Confederate notes. The following year, his only wealth was $500 in miscellaneous property and one lot. Felix Collard, son of Jonathan S. Collard and Nancy Reding, studied medicine under Dr. Tolson after the war, according to Felix's biographical sketch in The Medicine Man in Texas. Apparently, Dr. Tolson found it necessary to resume the practice of medicine, and he moved from Texas to Louisiana before 1870. He was living with his wife and eight children in New Iberia in 1870, and some of his children are found in Lafayette in 1880. His death date is unknown.
Biographical sketch prepared by Karen McCann Hett as part of "Danville Doctors" for a future edition of the MCG&HS History of Montgomery County, Texas.
