Hiram Little

  • Hiram Little was born on 9 April 1809 in Coalville, Bond County, Illinois.
  • He married Mary Lindley, daughter of Samuel Washington Lindley and Elizabeth Whitley, on 11 July 1831 in Coles County, Illinois.
  • Hiram Little and Mary Lindley appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Montgomery County, Texas, living next to Mary's sister Sarah Elizabeth Collard.
  • Hiram Little and Mary Lindley appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Montgomery PO, Madison County, Tennessee, living next to their son Jonathan. And on the other side, Mary's younger brother Elijah Lindley, and his wife Eliza who was the sister of Mary's daughter Adelphia's husband William Tolbert.. Other members of the household included William Little, Samuel Little, Joseph Little and Mary Emily Little.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1860 census.
  • On Sunday, 19 August 1860, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent off 5 Bales of cotton by Hiram Little's Waggon Making 52 Bales sent to Macatee, Stafford & Co."
  • He served under Captain Wooldridge with the 17th Brigade, Texas State Troops, Danville Mounted Riflemen, and was subsequently discharged because he was too old to serve.
  • On Tuesday, 1 December 1863, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: '1 Load corn to Mr Little, 50 Bushels," and on the following day, "24 Bushels to Mr Little."
  • His wife Mary Lindley became a widow at his death.
  • Hiram Little died on 13 September 1891 at age 82 in Willis, Montgomery County, Texas.
  • He was interred at Willis Cemetery, Willis, Montgomery County, Texas.
