David Hogan
b. say 1780, d. circa 1834
- David Hogan was born say 1780.
- David Hogan served one term as Sheriff of Dickson County, Tennessee (1806-1808).
- Jacob Fraley, George Hollabough and John Webb settled on Sinking Creek [in Perry County, Tennessee] about 1818 or 1820, and about the same time David Hogan, Hodge Adams and Nancy Randal settled on Rockhouse Creek.
- He married Keziah Adams, daughter of Unknown Adams and Unknown (?), circa 1819, possibly in Dickson or Maury County, Tennessee.
- David Hogan and Keziah Adams appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1830 in Marengo County, Alabama, and an unidentified male child under 5 years.
- On 19 November 1831 in Marengo County, Alabama, David Hogan made a deed of gift to the heirs of William Hunnells deceased, viz: Sarah Jane Hunnells, William Thomas and Kezia H. Honnell, gift of a slave I purchased of William Hunnell in his lifetime. (Supposition here, requiring further research, is that Nancy Adams Honell(s) named her daughter Keziah for her sister Keziah, who was David Hogan's wife.)
- David Hogan died circa 1834.
- His wife Keziah Adams became a widow at his death.
- David Hogan was granted six land patents for a total of about 480 acres in Marengo County on 28 October 1835 (apparently after his death), on the same date patents were granted to James H. Adams and Benjamin Adams.
- Benjamin Adams was granted a land patent for about 40 acres in Marengo county on 28 October 1835, the same date patents were granted to James H. Adams and David Hogan.
- James H. Adams was granted two land patents for a total of about 160 acres in Marengo County on 28 October 1835, and on the same date patents were granted to David Hogan and Benjamin Adams.
- Candidate for son of David & Keziah is James Hogan, born about 1830 in Alabama, found in the 1850 Marengo County census with wife Catharine. Apparently served in Company C, 12th Alabama Infantry, CSA, wounded at the battle of South Mountain on 14 September, and died of a gunshot wound as a prisoner of war in the USA General Hospital at Frederick, Maryland, on 3 October 1862. Buried Grave 82, Mt Olivet or Hospital Cemetery in Frederick. Captured at Antietam, Maryland, 17 September 1862. No effects.
