• Howard Welcome Barrett was born on 15 February 1834 in Jasper County, Georgia.
• James Howard Barrett and Elizabeth W. Parks appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Hatchet Creek, Coosa County, Alabama. Other members of the household included Howard Welcome Barrett, John Parks Barrett, William M. Barrett, Sarah Ann Barrett, Franklin Rush Barrett and Russel R. Barrett. Also in the household was Irish teacher George Miller, age 37.
• He was working on the farm, according to the 1850 census.
• Howard Welcome Barrett became a widower at the circa 1870 death of his wife.
• He married Sarah Victoria Nelson, daughter of Nathaniel Holly Nelson and Eliza Dupriest, on 15 January 1871 in White County, Arkansas.
• Howard Welcome Barrett died on 11 August 1907 at age 73 in Delta County, Texas.
• His wife Sarah Victoria Nelson became a widow at his death.
• He was interred at Old Klondike Cemetery, Klondike, Delta County, Texas.
• The following appeared on 15 April 1925 in the Delta Courier: Mrs. Sarah V. Barrett passed away at the home of her son, H. F. Barrett in the Stewart addition last Saturday morning at an early hour. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Sunday at 4 PM, conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. S. Dabney, after which the remains were laid to rest in Klondike Cemetery, by the side of her husband, who passed on 28 [sic] years ago. Deceased was born in Georgia [sic] June 30, 1853. She was married to H. W. Barrett in Arkansas in 1870. [sic] They moved to Fannin County in 1886 and after 8 years moved to Delta County and settled on a farm 3 miles north of Klondike. Her husband died in 1897 [sic]and a few years later she moved to Cooper with her family and purchased a home in the Stewart addition. Mrs. Barrett was a good woman, loved and respected by all who knew her. She is survived by seven children as follows: W. A. Barrett, Mrs. J. R. Wright, Mrs. Max Huffman, H. F. Barrett and Miss Debbie Barrett, all of Cooper and Mrs. E. M. Black of Race Track and L. L. Barrett of Cedar Creek.
