- Henry Goldthwaite was born on 13 April 1842 in Mobile County, Alabama.
- He was educated at Princeton College, at Princeton, at New Jersey graduating 1860.
- Elizabeth Isabella Witherspoon appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Princeton, Mercer County, New Jersey, and also in the household were two female servants.. Other members of the household included Henry Goldthwaite, Thomas Goldthwaite, Mary Witherspoon Goldthwaite, Joseph Graham Goldthwaite, George Goldthwaite and Alfred Goldthwaite.
- He was a college student, according to the 1860 census.
- It appears that Henry Goldthwaite was enumerated twice in the 1860 census, once in his mother's household and also as a student, presumably at Princeton College with his age given as 20 years.

- He studied medicine and graduated from Belleview Hospital Medical College in 1876, afterwards becoming an instructor in the college. In 1878 he became resident physician of the Fifth Avenue Hotel, New York. He was also a visiting physician to the City Hospital.

- Henry Goldthwaite died on 3 January 1895 at age 52 in New York City, New York.
- His wife Cornelia Catlin became a widow at his death.
- He was interred at Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.
- The following appeared on 4 January 1895 in The Philadelphia Inquirer: Dr. Henry Goldthwaite, for seventeen years the physician of the Fifth Avenue Hotel, New York, died suddenly yesterday.
