Benson, one of our oldest, most valued, and respected citizens. Seldom has a man descended to the grave possessing so universally the respect and esteem of the community in which he lived--a just tribute to a long life of warm-hearted benevolence and spotless integrity. He was the model of a man and a mason.
Judge Benson held the office of Receiver of the Land Office at this place for the last quarter of a century, and discharged his duties with a fidelity and trust-worthiness which met the approval of all Administrations of all parties.--Montgomery (Ala.) Journal.
