Other members of the household included Henry Goldthwaite, George Goldthwaite, Alfred Goldthwaite, Mary Purvis and Lilly Witherspoon Goldthwaite.
- He was a clerk in a store, according to the 1880 census.
- He married Amanda Hobson Moore.
- As medical agent of the quarantine Board of Mobile Bay, he was, in 1897, stationed at bocas del Toro, Colombia, South America.
- The following appeared on 28 December 1909 in the Montgomery Advertiser: (Mobile, Dec. 27) After a long illness Mrs. Mary Purvis Goldthwaite, 71 years old, and one of the best known residents of Mobile, and a member of one of the oldest families in the State, died this morning at 6:20 o'clock at her home, 920 Government Street. [:CR;] Surviving her is one son, Dr. Henry Goldthwaite, a well known officer of the United States Marine Hospital Service, stationed in this city.
