- The following appeared on 24 March 2004 in the Montgomery County News: Jesse Daniel Skelton, born April 24, 1923 in Wichita, Kan., died March 17, 2004 in Montgomery, Texas at the age of 80. Dan retired after 33 years of continuous service as an exploration geophysicist with Exxon, including VP of Exploration Research and Manager of Exploration Data Processing. He served as President of the Society of Exploration Geophysicist (1975) and the American Geological Institute (1976). He was awarded Honorary Lifetime Member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Dan attended Wichita University and received a BSEE with high honors from Kansas State University in 1948 and a MSEE from Oklahoma State University in 1954. He was a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Tau and Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Societies. He was a founding member of the Montgomery Philosophical Society. Dan served in the US Army Air Corps as a Navigator in the Air Transport Command during World War II. He participated in all theatres of the war and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. Dan was a very devout Christian serving as a Deacon in Memorial Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK and Tallowood Baptist in Houston and most recently as an Elder in the Walden Community Church in Montgomery. Over the years he utilized his God-given creative abilities through carpentry, photography, and a monthly website that was an inspiration to many. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Gloria of 59 years; daughters, Janet Wood and husband, Reed and Linda Renner and husband, Dale. Their youngest daughter, Karen Mai passed away in 1998. Dan was very proud of his nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and loving sister, Margaret Ann Everson and her husband, Jack. Visitation was Friday, March 19th from 6 to 8 pm at the Metcalf Funeral Home, 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas. The funeral service was held Saturday, March 20th at 10:30 a.m. at Walden Community Church, 12400 Walden Road, Montgomery, Texas 77356. Graveside Services to be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
