Lloyd has lived in White Pine County for 45 plus years coming from New Mexico. He was a Veteran of WWII having served in The US Army. He was a Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed yard sales, music and had a band while in the military.
Lloyd is survived by three nephews; Don (Barbara) Bland of Forney, Teas, John Grigsby of Joshua, Texas and Mike Johnston of Flower Mound, Texas; one neice, Linda Grigsby Lewis of Garland, Texas.
Services will be held in Cumby, Texas. - The following appeared in a local newspaper: Military graveside funeral services for Lloyd "Cotton" Bland, age 85, of Ely, Nevada, formerly of Sulphur Springs, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2008, at Cumby Cemetery, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition.
Visitation will be from 6:00 t00 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Mr. Bland passed away on Friday, May 16, 2008, at White Pine Care Center, in Ely, Nevada. He was born in Sulphur Springs on June 27, 1922, the son of J.B. and Kate Abercrombie Bland. He married Willie Slour. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Bland served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was retired, having worked in the mine fields and oil fields. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; two brothers; and two sisters.
