- The following appeared on 19 July 1938 in The Gazette & Daily: Thomas Givens, 17 East Charles avenue, died at 9:30 o’clock yesterday morning at the York hospital, where he had been a patient last week. He was aged 61 years. Surviving are a son, William Givens; two brothers, Valentine and Gilbert Givens, and three sisters, Mrs. Amanda Johnson, Mrs. Eliza Wilson and Mrs. Minnie Dorsey, all of York. The funeral will be held Wednesday, with services at 10:30 a.m., from the J. Milton Bricker funeral home, 210 West Jackson street. Rev. A. J. Pagan will officiate. Interment will follow in Upper Chanceford cemetery.
