  • The following appeared in The Chenango Union: Porter H. Aldrich, former supervisor of the Town of Plymouth, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Owens, at Stewart's Corners Thursday night following an extended period of failing health.
         Mr. Aldrich was born in Plymuth, May 5, 1865, the son of Moses and Calista Aldrich. Early in his life he engaged in farming, an occupation he had continued until his retirement several years ago.
         A man of fine standing in his community, he served the Town of Plymouth for several years as supervisor. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Plymough.
         Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Paul Owens, and six grandchildren, John Owens, Paul Owens, Jr., David and Lucy Owens, all of Plymouth; Mrs. Rolland English of washington, D. C., and Long Aldrich of Norwich; also several nieces and nephews.
         Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Breese Funeral Home.
  • The following appeared on 6 June 1953 in the Binghamton Press: The City of Norwich took the brunt of a violent electric storm that swept across Chenango County from the northwest late yesterday afternoon.
         More than a score of large trees and parts of trees were blown down in the streets and lots, severing electric and telephone wires as they toppled.
         Most of the damage was in the northwest part of the city as the storm swept down the Canasawacta Creek Valley into the city. A few trees were reported down in the East River Road.
         In the Town of Plymouth, lightning struck and killed a cow on the farm of J. Paul Owens, town supervisor. . . .
