- The following appeared on 8 February 1917 in The Saginaw Daily News: John E. Davis, for many years a prominent farmer of Kochville, died at his home Wednesday night at 9 o'clock from heart trouble and pneumonia. Mr. Davis was one of the best known farmers in Saginaw county. He made a specialty of the growing of fruits, particularly strawberries. [:CR;] He was born in Saginaw, September 13, 1851, and when four years of age went with his parents to Kochville where he has made his home ever since. He was married in 1884 to Ida Otto of Kochville. He was a member of St. John the Baptist parish in Carrollton and was also a member of Strawberry Arbor of Kochville, Ancient Order of Gleaners, having had the honro of nameing the arbor. [:CR;] He is survived by his wife and eight children, Earl J. Davis, of the firm of Otto and Davis, Saginaw; Mark T. Davis, Saginaw; Roy Davis, Bay City; Lorena Davis, Caro; Weldon, Arthur, Harold and Hazel Davis at home. He is alsos survived by four brothers, Richard, Jeremiah, Thomas and Fred Davis, and a half brother, Charles Davis, all of Kochville.
- The following appeared on 11 February 1917 in The Saginaw Courier Herald: The funeral of John E. Davis took place yesterday morning at 8:30 o'clock from the residence in Kochville and at 9 o'clock from St. John the Baptist Church, Carrollton. Rev. Fr. George Lavallee officiated, and One Sweet Solemn Thought was rendered by the Misses Cardinal. Among the many floral offerings were pieces from the Strawberry Council No 593, Knights of Columbus, neighbors and many others. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, the six sons, Earl J., Mark R., Roy, Weldon, Arthur and Harold acted as pallbearers.
