H. Hewett Pegues

b. 13 November 1844, d. 29 March 1873
  • The following appeared in the Jackson Whig and Tribune: [Died] At his residence near Andrew's Chapel, in this County, on Saturday, the 29th ult., Mr. Hewitt H. Pegues, in the 30th year of his age. He leaves a wife and four children. [:CR;]      As a boy, as a soldier and as a man, Hewitt Pegues was the peer of the noblest and best. In him truth, honor and tenderness of heart combined to form a character both brave and loveable. We knew him well, and knowing, loved him. He can but sleep well. His sun has set but to rise again in broghtness forever in the beautiful land of the hereafter. To his bereaved family we tender a sympathy too deep for words. God grant hem faith, and the sweet balm of hope in this the darkest of life's many dark hours.
