- The following appeared in a local newspaper: Memorial services for Travis O. Harkness, 75, of Kaufman were held March 2, 1993 in the First Presbyterian Church of Kaufman with the Rev. Katherine Pawkett and Rev. Don Teague officiating. Interment followed in the Wilson Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home of Mabank. Mr. Harkness was born August 12, 1917 in Prairieville to W. B. and Lizzie Hayler Harkness. He died after a short illness on February 25 1993 in Kaufman hospital. A former resident of Dallas he had lived in the Kaufman area for twenty-two years. He was the owner of Harkness Exploration Co., a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kaufman and a member of the Petroleum Club of Dallas. Survivors include his wife, Bess Harkness of Kaufman; two sons, Travis Harkness and Dana Harkness of Dallas; two step-sons, Michael Lagow of Grand Prairie and Mickey Lagow of Kaufman; three step-daughters, Betty Calhoun of Grand Prairie, Janet Roberts of Kaufman and Janice Schigut of Grand Prairie; twenty-one grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara June.
