Jane Harton

         A native of Conway, she held an AB degree from Randolph Macon Women's College of Lynchburg, Va., and an MA from Columbia University. She spent many years of her professional life teaching college English.
         For the past 20 years she avidly pursued genealogical research on her Harton and Winn family tree. Last fall she published a comprehensive history of her Harton forebears which dated back to the 17th century.
         She served as officer of many organizations she belonged to and while living in Fayetteville, N.C., served as chapter president of her PEO chapter and regent of the local DAR chapter. She attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Greenville, S.C.
         She is survived by her husband, John (Jack) Peyrouse; her daughters, Jane Peyrouse of Boston, Mass., and Marcia Gaines of Greenville, S.C; a son, John (Jay) Peyrouse of Greenville, S.C; three grandchildren; and her brother, Marcus Harton of Nashville, Tenn.
         A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Fr. Eric Schnaufer officiating.
         In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Gardens of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 910 Hudson Road, Greenville, S.C., 29615.
