- The following appeared on 25 September 1974 in The Mineola Monitor: Tom Pegues, 55, owner and operator of a real estate and insurance agency in Mineola for 26 years, died Thursday morning, Sept. 19, at his home east of Mineola after a lengthy illness.
Rosary was said at 6 p.m. Thursday in the English Funeral Chapel, and funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon, Sept. 20, in the chapel, with burial in Mineola City Cemetery.
Mr. Pegues was a native and lifelong resident of Mineola. A graduate of Mineola High School, he held the backelor's and master's degrees from East Texas State University, Commerce. He served in the U. S. Army in World War II. He was a member and director of the Mineola Industrial Foundation; was a Wood County representative on the board of directors of the East Texas Council on Alcoholism; and was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Mineola.
A number of years ago, he had been appointed by Governor John Connally as a director of the Sabine River Authority of Texas. He had since been re-appointed to the SRA board, and was its secretary pro tem att the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Pegues, of Mineola; two sons, Tommy Pegues of Commerce and John A. (Tony) Pegues of Mineola; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Rodemeyer of Sacramento, California, and Mrs. Michele Trieb of Austin; and three brothers, Henry Galt Pegues Jr. of Shreveport, La., and Ben B. Pegues and Robert G. Pegues, both of Mineola.
Pallbearers were Ray Watts, Moon Mullins, Joe Stallings, Herman Gresham, Coulter Templeton and Ed Trieb.
Honorary pallbearers were directors of the Sabine River Authority of Texas.
