A native of Austin and resident of Beaumont since 1964, Mr. Rutland was an attorney with Packard, Packard, and LaPray. He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran and member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Survivors include his sons, Joseph Blake Rutland of Houston and Jason Darby of San Diego, California; brothers-in-law, John Brand and his wife Ruby of Austin and Fred Ennen of Corpus Christi; nieces, Deborah Brand of Houston, Nancy Schaefers of Dallas, and Ann Ennen of Atlanta; nephews, David Brand and Bayliss Hunter both of Houston, Jim Brand of Austin, and Bill Ennen of Las Vegas, Nevada. His parents, Jesse Blake and Myrtle Rutland and his sisters, Mildred Ennen and Martha Brand, preceded him in death. Funeral services were Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church under the direction of Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. Graveside services were at the Masonic Cemetery, Austin, Texas.
