George E. Mathews

Big George Mathews was also a man of large prroperty in land, negroes and money. He was called big George, as the name implies, to distinguish him from little George. He was universally admired and respected for his many noble qualities, and no man stood higher in the estimation of his fellow men than did Mr. Mathews. He left two sons and one daughter, William B., Miss Fannie and Charles H. William B. married a daughter of William Marks. Miss Fannie never married. Charles H. married a daughter of the noble Lorenzo James.
