  • The following appeared on 13 March 1941 in the Linden Democrat-Reporter: Miss Mattie Cuninghame, 79, died at her home in Thomasville early Friday morning after an illness of several months.
         Miss Cuninghame was a native of Morvin, Ala., but went to Thomasville to reside some years ago. She was an active member of the Baptist church, and was teacher of the T.E.L. Class over a period of 25 years. She was an honorary life member of the Research Club, and through these organizations she had made large contributions to the cultural life of the community.
         She is survived by a sister, Mrs. M.G. Martin, of Thomasville, and two brothers, George Westwood Cuninghame of Linden, and Judge James G. Cuninghame of Grove Hill.
         Funeral services were held from the home Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. E.O. Jackson, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed at the Choctaw Corner Cemetery.
