[TAB:] Born on September 9, 1922 in Fort Worth, Tex., Mr. Burleson was raised in many towns across Texas in the 1920s and 1930s. He resided in Westfield from 1954 until 1987, when he retired. He then lived in the Northern Neck area of Virginia before relocating to Walnut Creek.
[TAB:] In 1943, he graduated from Rice University with a degree in chemical engineering. Joining the United States Navy in 1944, Mr. Burleson worked on a plutonium separation assignment that eventually evolved into the Manhattan Project.
[TAB:] He moved to New York in 1946, attaining his Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia University in 1952
[TAB:] After working briefly at Celanese, Mr. Burleson joined Merck & Co. in Rahway in 1950, where he would spend his entire career.
[TAB:] In 1993, he was pre-deceased by his first wife, Halora Adams Burleson, whom he married in 1948.
[TAB:] Surviving are his second wife, Patricia Sagenkahn Burleson; a daughter, Mary B. Donovan of Farmville, Va; a son, Robert D. Burleson, 3rd of Bethesda, Md., and a sister, Luralove Stripling of Pasadena, Tex.
[TAB:] Services were held on Saturday, May 17, in Irvington, Va. - He was interred at Christ Church Cemetery, Irvington, Lancaster County, Virginia.
