  • The following appeared on 3 November 1886 in a local newspaper: At 11 o'clock night before last Geo. Shelbie (sic) Fitze, aged 17 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fitze, living a couple of miles west of the city, died from a severe malarial attack of two weeks duration. He was a youth of fine promise and was not only the pride and joy of his family and other near relatives, but was beloved by all who knew him. His mental brightness, gentleness of manner and affectionate disposition placed him ahead of the generality of young men. He was dutiful not only as a son and brother, but in any relationship that he bore to his fellow man. He had lived in Houston nearly, if not all, his life. The funeral will take place this morning at 11 o'clock from the residence of his parents.
