Helen fought a courageous battle against complications from a major stroke. She was born on September 30, 1926 in Lufkin, Texas, the youngest of seven children. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years James Boyd Whitfield. She is survived by her son, James Boyd Whitfield, Jr. and wife Sherry Daniels Whitfield, daughter Patricia Jo Anderson and husband William F. Anderson II, granddaughters, Amanda Shawell and husband Kerry, Jamie Wade and husband Tony, Rhonda Jeter and husband James, treasured great grandchildren Madison and Kayla Jeter, and Cameron and Morgan Wade. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for many years, serving as Vice-President for several terms. Family visitation will be Friday evening, January 29, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home, 1200 W. 34th Street. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 30, at 11 a.m. at Brookside Memorial Cemetery. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Lucy Gonzales and her staff at Shady Acres PCH for their loving care of Helen. The family also wishes to express sincere appreciation to Houston Hospice for the loving care of Helen and Helen's family.
