- He married Margaret Adeline Moore on 2 July 1858 in Montgomery County, Texas.
- William D. Rogers and Edward Eusebius Gresham appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Montgomery PO, Montgomery County, Texas. Also in the household was E. B. Green, a 56-year-old female, born in South Carolina.
- On Saturday, 26 April 1862, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent 4 plows to plow Mr Rodgers corn."
- On Monday, 8 December 1862, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent a waggon & all hands except the plow hands to gather and hawl corn for Mr Rodgers, did not quite finish," and on the following day, "Sent back a waggon and hands to finish hawling corn for Mr Rodgers." On Wednesday, Green wrote, "Sent two hands to split rails for corn pens for Rodgers," and on Thursday, "Sent three hands to get boards for Rodgers corn pens."
- On 28 April 1862, he enlisted in Danville in the Second Texas Lancers.
