  • Daniel McGill and Elizabeth (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Macon County, Alabama, enumerated next to their daughter Mary Westmoreland.. Other members of the household included Jane Elizabeth McGill.

  • On Wednesday, 12 March 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Planted about 18 Acres with 4 3/4 Bushels of corn seed, on the sides next to McGill."
  • On Monday, 7 April 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: ". . . the other hands thined corn adjoining McGill's untill 12 oclock . . ."
  • On Thursday, 8 May 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "The plows finished plowing corn, the part adjoining McGill."
  • On Thursday, 26 June 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent 19 hands to Mr McGill's to work," and on the following day, "Sent 7 hands to Mr McGill to work."
  • On Friday, 26 September 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr McGill commenced hauling cotton to the Gin."
  • On Saturday, 4 October 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Packed 8 Bales of cotton for Mr McGill & 150 lb cotton left over."
  • On Saturday, 22 November 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Commenced bedding up corn land next to McGill's." The following week, on the 27th, "Pack 6 Bales of cotton for Mr McGill," and the 29th, "Packed 2 Bales cotton for McGill."
  • On Thursday, 4 December 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Pack six Bales cotton this morning for Mr McGill making 22 Bales for him."
  • On Saturday, 10 January 1852, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr McGill has 24 Bales & 320 lb cotton over. I furnished 30 yds baging, 21 lb rope."
  • On Sunday, 25 January 1852, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Collier came down this evening, worked for me 3 days and McGill 1 day," and noted at the bottom of the page "29th January Received of Mr McGill $50 on account of Gining his cotton." On Sunday, the 1st of February, "Collier went home this morning having worked 6 days."

  • On Thursday, 11 March 1852, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent 4 hands to help Mr McGill raise a Gin house," and on the following day, "Sent 4 hands to McGills to raise Gin House."
  • On Friday, 27 August 1852, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent 4 hands to raise a Screw at Mr McGill's."
  • Daniel McGill became a widower at the 29 December 1858 death of his wife Elizabeth (?)
  • He married Tilitha Jane Shackelford, daughter of Collin Shackelford and Mary (?), on 13 June 1860 in Macon County, Alabama.
  • Daniel McGill and Tilitha Jane Shackelford appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Danville, Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Daniel McGill.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1870 census.
  • Daniel McGill died on 22 December 1873 at age 74.
  • He was interred at the old Danville cemetery, Montgomery County, Texas, on present-day Shepard Hill Road, near Willis.
