Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Gadsden, with burial following at Forrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today at the church.
Marion was born in Dallas, Texas, grew up in Sherman, Texas, graduated from Baylor University in Waco, and taught school in Sherman, Texas, and in Waco, Texas. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Gadsden in 1955 and have lived here since then.
Marion was a very active member of First United Methodist Church of Gadsden, having served as a Sunday school teacher, Circle leader, board of trustees member and president of United Methodist Women. She was also active in civic affairs, having served as president of the Gadsden Service Guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Dovie Maye Jarrell; and her grandson, David Wilburn.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jack W. Torbert; her children, Whit Torbert (Kathy) and Patricia Ann Wilburn (Bobby); grandsons, Jonathan Wilburn and Jackson Wilburn; granddaughter, Hannah Torbert; brothers, Richard Jarrell (Jeanette) and Albert Jarrell (Florence); sister-in-law, Eula Torbert Goers (Mel); and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kim Whitt, Dan Copeland Jr., Richard McCoy, Kent Back, Keith Back and Curtis Wright Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Morris Friendship Class of First United Methodist Church of Gadsden.
The family requests that no flowers be given but that memorial donations be made to the charity of the friends' choice.
