- The following appeared on 24 January 1918 in The Charlotte Observer: Mr. Frank Pegues, of Kollock, S. C., and daughter, Mrs. Olin Pegues, of Rockingham, were in the city Wednesday, having been called here by the critical illness and subsequent death of Mr. W. C. Leak. Mr. Pegues is a brother-in-law of Mrs. Leak.
Mr. T. L. Parsons, a nephew of Mr. Leak, was also here to see him. Mr. and Mrs. Marlbrough Pegues, the former a brother of Mrs. Leak, from Greenville, S. C., arrived here just before Mr. Leak died. - The following appeared on 25 January 1918 in The State: W. C. Leak, a prominent cotton mill man of Rockingham, N. C., who is well known throughout South Carolina, died on Wednesday at the sanatorium in Charlotte and was buried yesterday at his home in Rockingham. [:CER:] Mr. Leak was about 54 years old and at the time of his death was president of several cotton mills. Last summer he was run down and seriously injured by an automobile in the public square in Rockingham. The car was driven by an inexpreienced young man who was just learning to run it, and who lost control of the car. Since the accident Mr. Leak wasted away, was never able to recover his health, and suffered several strokes of paralysis.
His widow who was Miss Nancy Pegues of Marlboro, and two sons survive him. - The following appeared on 25 January 1918 in the Greensboro Daily News: (Charlotte, Jan. 24) W. C. Leak, of Rockingham, died at a hospital in this city Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The funeral and interment will take place in Rockingham. Mr. Leak suffered a stroke of paralysis two weeks ago. He was about 60 years of age and was one of the most prominent men of Richmond county. He was president of the Pee Dee Manufacturing company and had other large interest in the Pee Dee section. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Mary [sic] Pegues, of Marlboro, S. C; and two sons, Thomas Randolph Leak, of Rockingham, and W. C. Leak, Jr., a student at the University of North Carolina.
