  • The following appeared on 18 March 1910 in The Montgomery Advertiser: Chesley W. Abercrombie, a well known Montgomery citizen and a Confederate soldier, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W. G. Yelverton, 620 Adams avenue at 11 o'clock Thursday morning. Mr. Abercrombie had been in failing health for more than a year but was only confined to his bed three days before his death.
         Mr. Abercrombie was 68 years old, and was born in Elmore county near Wetumpka. He served for four years during the war as a member of company K, 12th Alabama regiment. He was a member of A. Q. U. W.
         After the war Mr. Abercrombie moved to Montgomery where he has since resided. He was in business in Montgomery for twenty years and retired about ten years ago. He was a prominent member of the Protestant Methodist church. He married Mrs. Louisa Perry, formerly Miss Louisa Miles of Wetumpka, 42 years ago, and his wife still survives him.
         Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, J. W. Abercrombie, J. C. Abercrombie and B. H. Abercrombie and one daughter, Mrs. W. G. Yelverton, all of Montgomery and four brothers and two sisters, who reside in Texas.
         Mr. Abercrombie was a warm friend of Rev. John Bass Shelton, formerly pastor of the Adams Avenue Baptist church but now pastor of First Baptist church in Adairville Ky. When Mr. Abercrombie's conditions grew worse Wednesday the family telegraphed Mr. Shelton who arrived in Montgomery Thursday morning.
         The funeral service will be held Saturday at 12 o'clock from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Yelverton on Adams avenue. Mr. Shelton, Rev. E. W. Holland, pastor of the Protestant Baptist church, and Rev. J. Marion Anderson, pastor of the Second Baptist Church, will conduct the service. Burial will be on Oakwood cemetery.
