Born in Blocton, Bibb County, Mr. Meadow was the son of Dr. Albert E. Meadow, a physician in Blocton and later in Birmingham.
A 1904 graduate of Birmingham High School, now Phillips High, Mr. Meadow became connected with Birmingham industry while a young man.
He rose to be a civic as well as industrial leader. In 1953, he was nominated as Birmingham's "Man of the Year." His first civic activity was selling bonds during World War I. He headed a committee which raised funds for Arlington, Birmingham Civil War shrine.
He was president of Alabama Motorists Assn. several terms. Under his leadership, membership rose from 2,900 to 29,000. At the time of his death, he was vice president of American Automobile Assn.
He was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Birmingham Kiwanis Club, Redstone Club, Downtown Club, The Club, Mountain Brook Club and Vestavia Country Club.
Mr. Meadow and a partner founded Ornamental Iron Co. in the 1920s in Tarrant. The company was later moved to Birmingham. Meadow Steel Products was founded several years later.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Adams Meadow; two daughters, Mrs. Richard LaBan, Englewood, N. J., and Mrs. William McTyeire of Birmingham; a brother, Percy Meadow of Jacksonville, Fla. and a sister, Mrs. Howard Walden of Palisades, N. J., and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Johns-Ridout's Church Chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood. J. H. Trimble will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Keener Greene, Harl Carter, S. T. Abel, Jeff Jackson, John Pugh, Ed Rogers, R. C. Jones, Russell Knight and William Hooks.
Honorary pallbearers will be A. M. Shook, Thornton Estes, Chester A. Lord, T. M. Smith, J. Frank Parks, John C. Persons, David Roberts, Ed Norton, Thad Holt, Mark Hodo, W. B. Timmons, Francis Latardy, employes of Birmingham Ornamental Iron Co., directors of Meadow Steel Products, directors of Exchange Security Bank, directors of Alabama Motorists Association, members of Birmingham Kiwanis Club and Redstone Club. - Today Is Big With Blessings: Bert M.
