- Malachi Murphee was born say 1710.
- According to Bishop Gregg: "Of the Murfees there were four brothers, Moses, Malachi, Maurice and Michael. Of these Malachi became the wealthiest. He is said to have given one hundred slaves to each of three sons; he died before the Revolution. Maurice had a son bearing his name, who was destined to occupy a prominent place in the subsequent history of the Pee Dee."

- Malachi Murphy's will, dated 5 September 1773, was written in Prince Frederick Parish, Craven County, South Carolina. Named in the will as the children of his deceased wife Hannah: Moses Murfee, Malachi Sanders, Nathaniel and James Sanders, Mary Sanders, Massey/Mercy [Marcia], Mercy [Marcia] Pegues, daughter of William Pegues and Elizabeth [Saunders] his Wife deceased; and the Sons and Daughters of the Reverend Nicholas Bedgood and Mary [Saunders] his Wife.
