- Elvira Dudley Dean was born circa 1885 in Pennsylvania.
- Dr. Elvira Dean Abell graduated from Cornell Medical College in 1911, came to Morristown, and entered practice with her sister, Dr. Jennie Dean Beaver, as a pathologist and roentgenologist at Memorial and All Souls Hospitals. In 1930 she was invited by President Herbert Hoover to be a delegate to the National conference on Child Health and Protection. She was the first woman member of the Board of Directors of Shonghum Mountain Sanatorium in Morristown and for several years was president of the New Jersey Tuberculosis Association.

She was a member of the board of managers of New Jersey Training School for Girls, and of the Shonghum Mountain Sanitorium of Morris County. - The following appeared on January 1949 in Cornell Alumni News: ('07 AB, '11 MD) Dr. Elvira Dean Abell [died], December 8, 1948, at her home on Lountoka Way and Woodland Road, Madison, N. J.. Wife of former Senator Frank D. Abell, she was pathologist and roentgenologist at Morristown, N. J., Memorial Hospital, and on staffs of All Souls Hospital, Morristown, and Overlook Hospital, Summit, N. J. She was president of the New Jersey Tuberculosis Association and a member of the board of managers of the New Jersey training School for Girlls. Sister, Dr. Jennie Dean Beaver '07.
