  • He married Ermine Cornelia LeGrand, daughter of James LeGrand and Martha Leak Richardson, on 24 December 1856 in Richmond County, North Carolina.
  • The following appeared on 19 January 1857 in the Carolina Observer: Died, Of Congestive fever, on the 8th instant, at the residence of Mr. Robert Brodnax, in Rockingham county, Mrs. Susan Mary Brodnax, daughter of Chief Justice Ruffin, and wife of Mr. John W.
