  • The following appeared on 17 October 1888 in the Augusta Chronicle: Miss McWhorter was an acknowledged leader in Morehead City and at Asheville. . . . Mrs. Adams, Miss Annie Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. McWhorter and Miss McWhorter arrived last evening from the mountains of North Carolina.

  • The following appeared on 7 February 1889 in The Macon Telegraph: (Augusta, Feb. 6) At noon today at the Church of the Good Shephard on the Sand Hills, Mr. Chas. Shepard Bryan, a young business and social leader of Newberne, N. C., was married to Miss Annie Adams McWhorter, the beauty and belle of Augusta society. The ceremony was performed by Bishop E. G. Weed, who came up from Jacksonville especially to officiate at the ceremony. There were six attendants and the church was crowded.
         A reception was afterwards tendered the couple and their friends at the home of Mrs. Sturgis, the bride's sister. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan left tonight for New York.
  • The following is excerpted from an obituary of Sarah McMurphy Adams, published on 27 July 1901, "The deceased is survived by her children, Mrs. Joseph Ganahl, Mrs. Sarah McWhorter, Miss Annie Adams, Mr. John Adams; her grandchildren, Mrs. P. A. Stovall of Savannah, Miss Harriet Ganahl of New York, Mr. A. G. Ganahl, of Washington, and Mr. Joseph Ganahl of this city, Mr. Adams Ganahl of Savannah, Mrs. Sturges of New York, Mrs. Charles Bryan of New Berne, N. C. "

  • She was interred at Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina.
