  • James Alexander McMillan and Valeria (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Fairfield PO, Freestone County, Texas. Other members of the household included Archibald McMillan.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1860 census.
  • On Sunday, 24 November 1861, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Delivered James McMillan 63 Head of Ewes & received four 50 Dollar Treasury notes and a Draft on Bush & Baker Huntsville for $50."
  • James Alexander McMillan died on 2 February 1905 at age 78 in Tenaha, Shelby County, Texas.
