- The following appeared on 27 October 1911 in The Matagorda County Tribune: A surprise wedding was sprung here yesterday in the marriage of Capt. Frank Rugeley, Matagorda countys popular sheriff and Mrs. Ellen Partain, of Midfield. The ceremony was performed by Judge W. S. Holman at the home of Mrs. Anna Rugeley in this city. Only a few were present to witness the event and immediately after the ceremony the contracting parties boarded the Brownsville for Houston where they will spend several days. /P/ Captain Frank Rugeley is one of the old settlers of this county and is known throughout the breadth and thickness of the coast country. He has been in public life for many years and has made the county and State a good and fearless officer. He has an unlimited host of friends and is, indeed, a very popular man. /P/ The bride is one of Matagorda countys most lovable women. Her home is at Midfield, where she has extensive landed interests. Her friends are legion and she is greatly beloved wherever known. /P/ Mr. and Mrs. Rugeley will make Bay City their home, and to them the Tribune, on behalf of their friends and acquaintances extends a hearty welcome accompanied by the sincerest wishes for a long, happy and prosperous journey through the remaining days of their life partnership.
