Wiley Moses

b. April 1845, d. between 1900 and 1910
  • Wiley Moses was born in April 1845 in Texas.
  • He married Eliza Bartley circa 1863.
  • Wiley Moses and Eliza Bartley appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Madison County, Texas. Other members of the household included Isabella Moses and William Moses. Son William (age 1) is identified as W. Taylor Moses. In 1880, there are two Williams enumerated in the household, ages 12 and 6, and later records indicate that the younger was William Taylor Moses. Perhaps the elder William actually was deceased at the time of the 1880 census.
  • He was a farm laborer, according to the 1870 census.
  • Wiley Moses and Eliza Bartley appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Isabella Moses, William Moses, Annie Elizabeth Moses, William Taylor Moses, James Moses, Roberta Moses and Felix Moses. In view of the fact that there are two sons William in the household, ages 12 and 6, apparently both named "Wiliam Taylor Moses, it seems possible that the elder William actually was deceased at the time of the 1880 census.

North Danville Colored District 61 Trustees were Jordan Lee, A. F. Foster, and Wiley Moses. Danville District 21 was a "colored" district, with trustees Hy Cain, Jeff Shanders, and Beverly Harris.
By the time of the 1908-09 school year, there were at least four Danville districts. Danville District 21 was a "colored" district, receiving its mail at Willis. Trustees were Henry Fair, Jeff Shavers, and Beverly Harris. [From an article by Karen McCann Hett, to be published in the 2009 Montgomery County history.]
