- The following appeared on 12 February 1913 in The Daily Picayune: Woodville, Miss., Feb. 11.-- John Burrus McGehee, of Woodlawn plantation, one of the most prominent citizens of this section, died to-night at 7 o'clock. He was the son of the late James Edward McGehee, and was born Jan. 22, 1836. He leaves one son, Stewart McGehee, of St. Louis. The funeral will take place Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
- The following appeared on 12 February 1913 in The Daily Picayune: St. Francisville LA., Feb. 11.-- John Burres McGehee was one of West Feliciana Parish's largest planters and stock raisers. He was at one time owner of the Bayou Sara and Woodville Railroad, which he sold to the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad, now known as the Woodville and Slaughter branch. /P/ Mr. McGehee had always been a prominent figure in church work and politics, representing this parish in the Legislature during radical times. He gave his time and money during the recent Good Government League campaign in this state, and was looked upon as the leader in Parish politics. /P/ Mr. McGehee was a devout member of the Episcopal Church and acted as lay reader of St. Mary's Church at Laurel Hill. /P/ He is survived by his widow, who was a sister of the late Duncan Stewart, and one son, Stewart McGehee, of St. Louis, Mo. Interment will be made in the family burial ground at Bouland Green, Miss., Thursday morning.
- The following appeared on 4 May 1913 in The Daily Picayune: . . . The man who instigated the [Christian Unity] movement that has fired two continents was then a lawyer of West Feliciana Parish. He represented the Episcopal Church at Bayou Sara. A Southerner, born in Wilkinson County, he received his higher education at Yale. He was the son of the well-known jurist, Judge McGehee, of Mississippi, and in his early life married Miss Katherine Stewart. One son was born to the couple, Mr. James Stuart McGehee, who is now living in St. Louis. . . .
