- Charles H. Grigg was born circa 1836 in Georgia probably Jones County.
- He married Susan Moore on 3 November 1860 in Winston County, Mississippi.
- C. H. Grigg enlisted on 5 April 1862 in Louisville, Mississippi, as a private in Capt. O. C. Watson's Company, 35th Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers, CSA (later Company I, 35th Mississipi Infantry Regiment). He was on the list of prisoners of war captured and paroled by the US forces in the battle of Corinth, Mississippi, in October 1862, and subsequently paroled. He was present as a 5th sergeant on the Company Muster Roll for November and December 1862, and was captured at Vicksburg on 4 July 1863, and signed his oath of allegiance on 8 July. Last pay on the records dated 31 August 1864 for service through 31 December 1863.
