- William Edward Martin was born on 3 January 1828 in Indiana or posibly the 2nd.
- G. D. Martin and S. (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Montgomery PO, Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included William Edward Martin, E. Martin. They were enumerated next to the household of Drury Wilson.
- He was a farmer, according to the 1860 census.
- He married Nancy Catherine Wilson, daughter of Drury Wilson and Matilda Reding, on 9 August 1860 in Montgomery County, Texas.
- At age 34, he joined the Travis Mounted Rifles, 26th Brigade, on 13 April 1862, and later was assigned to the 31st Texas Cavalry Regiment, CSA. He was paroled on 27 July 1865.
- William Edward Martin died on 21 December 1886 at age 58.
