- On Tuesday, 19 October 1852, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Dr Baldwin of Desoto Parrish Louisianna came this evening With G.M. Wood," and on Saturday, the 23rd, "Doctor Baldwin left his evening."
- On Monday, 14 March 1859, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent 3 Bales W. B. Campbell & one for Dr. Baldwin by Sloan."
- On Tuesday, 29 March 1859, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent off this morning by J. Sloan 4 Bales of cotton JWB . . . Sent Dr Baldwin's 4 Bales. . . ."
- James W. Baldwin and Elizabeth Sarah McKinnie appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Coldspring, Polk County, Texas, enumerated next to James' sister Amanda Moses.. Other members of the household included William O. Baldwin, Joseph W. Baldwin and Elizabeth White.
