  • George DeVer Simmons was born on 17 June 1880 in Smithville Flats, Chenango County, New York.
  • He married Florence Jessie Browning, daughter of John C. Browning and Florence Adella Tinker, on 12 October 1911 in Norwich, Chenango County, New York, with Rev. Dr. Duff officiating.
  • The following appeared on 20 October 1911 in The Cortland Democrat: (South Otselic) DeVer Simmons of Utica, formerly of this place, and Miss Florence Jessie Browning of Norwich were married at Norwich Thursday, Oct. 12.
  • The following appeared on 26 October 1911 in the DeRuyter Gleaner: (South Otselic) George Dever Simmons of Plymoth and Miss Florence J. Browning of Norwich were united in marriage on Thursday, Oct. 12, by Rev. Dr. Duff of Norwich.
  • George DeVer Simmons registered for the draft on 11 September 1918 in Chenango County, New York, while living with his wife Florence at 56 Pleasant Street in Norwich, and employed there as a traveling salesman by L. & A. Babcock Company [dealers in pianos, player pianos, talking machines and records], at 68 East Main Street.
  • The following appeared on 12 May 1926 in The Courier: (Brookfield) Dever Simmons of Norwich, who now represents a Binghamton piano house, was in town on Tuesday.
  • George DeVer Simmons became a widower at the 5 June 1953 death of his wife Florence Jessie Browning.
  • George DeVer Simmons died on 1 January 1959 at age 78 in Earlville, Madison County, New York, at Earlville Nursing Home.
  • He was interred at Earlville Cemetery, Earlville, Madison County, New York.
  • The following appeared on 4 January 1959 in The Sunday Press: (Norwich) Funeral services for DeVer Simmons, 78, a Spanish American War veteran, will be at 2 p. m. tomorrow in the Amos Beecher Funeral Home, Earlville.
         Burial will be in Earlville Cemetery.
         Mr. Simmond died Friday night at the Earlville Nursing Home.
         He was a native of Smithville Flats and had lived in Norwich much of his life. He was a retired photographer.
         Survivors are a son, Rolland Simmons of Buffalo, a brother, Dwight Simmons of Syracuse, and a niece.
  • The following appeared on 15 January 1959 in The DeRuyter Gleaner: (North Pitcher) We regret to know of the passing of Mr. DeVer Simmons of Earlville. Mr. Simmons was a teacher in the school here about forty years ago, and was held in high esteem by the pupils and people of this community.
