Funeral service 12:45 p.m. Thursday St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Father Thomas J. Flanagan officiating. Remains will lie in state at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church from 11:30 a.m. Thursday until service time. Interment Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. She was a native of Norman, AR., but grew up in Kilgore. She lived with her husband, Leon Burcalow and children in Thibodaux, LA. for over 30 years.
Lucy Burcalow loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was also a devoted sports fan of the Houston Astros, LSU Tigers, Nicholls State Colonels, New Orleans Saints and most every other seasonal sports.
Preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and John Abercrombie; sisters, Josephine Friend, Ellabeth Abercrombie; brothers, John Abercrombie, Jr., Glenn Abercrombie, and Riley Abercrombie; and granddaughter, Claire Renee Goudeau.
She is survived by five daughters , Susan and Jimmy Goudeau of Baton Rouge, LA, Elizabeth and Chris Winker of Birmingham, AL, Katherine Burcalow and Craig Flentke of Austin, Rosemary and John Vegas of Houston, Raynelle and Phillip Lanier of Baton Rouge, LA; two sons, David and Memory Burcalow of Greenfield, NY, Army LTC (Ret) James M. Burcalow of Platte City, MO; five grandchildren. - The following appeared on 1 February 2007 in the Longview News-Journal: Graveside services for Leon Lawrence Burcalow, 83, of Jackson, La., formerly of Kilgore and Thibodaux, La., will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2007, at Kilgore Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore. Mr. Burcalow died January 27, 2007, in Jackson, La. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, Exxon retiree, and member of D-Day Museum in New Orleans, La. Survivors include his daughters, Susan Goudeau, Beth Winkler, Katherine Burcalow Flentke, Rosemary Vegas and Raynelle Lanier; sons, David Burcalow and James M. Burcalow, U.S. Army Lt. Col., retired; and sister, Doris Riddlesperger.
