• He appeared in the '1891-1892 Austin, Texas, City Directory at 200 West 6th, corner Colorado. listed as proprietor of the Phoenix Saloon, same address.
• Johan Friedrick Kempe appeared in the '1898-1899 Austin, Texas, City Directory at 405 East 13th.
• Johan Friedrick Kempe died on 2 September 1898 at age 44.
• His wife Mathilde Karoline Augusteson became a widow at his death.
• He was interred at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.
• It is an educated guess, but not yet verified satisfactorily, that Frank Kemp and John Kempe were brothers. Frank's wife Ida was buried in an Oakwood plot owned by John Kempe. John had a son Frank, although it appears that Frank did not have a son John. They both had sons named Otto.
