• Phillis was born on 22 March 1853 in Montgomery County, Texas, at Greenwood plantation near old Danville.
• Following emancipation, Phillis adopted the name Phillis Baltrip.
• She married Friday Fance, son of (?) Fance and Unknown (?), on 30 December 1869 in Montgomery County, Texas.
• Friday Fance and Phillis appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Danville, Montgomery County, Texas, enumerated next to Tilmon Fance.. Other members of the household included Gaines Fance.
• Her name was recorded as Rose Fance in the 1870 census.
