- The following appeared on 27 April 1913 in The State: (Clemson College, April 26) The residence of Samuel W. Evans was burned this morning. A considerable part of the furniture was saved by the quick work of the cadets and othrs.
The family were waked by the old negro woman who discovered the stove room burning about 5:30 o'clock. The flames made such rapid headway that the efforts to save the building were soon abandoned. Jewelry and many other valuables were lost. - Samuel Wilds Evans died on 30 December 1950 at age 69.
