- Harriet Pegues Godfrey became a widow at the 27 March 1833 death of her husband Samuel Wilds Gillespie.
- Harriet Pegues Godfrey appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Marlboro District, South Carolina, living near Harriet's husband's brother James.. Other members of the household included Harriet Elizabeth Godfrey Gillespie, Francis Samuel Gillespie and Nancy Godfrey Gillespie.
- Harriet Pegues Godfrey died on 23 November 1867 at age 74 in Marlboro District, South Carolina, at the residence of her son-in-law Rev. R. R. Pegues.

R. R. Pegues, in Marlboro District, S. C., in the 74th year of her age. She reared seven children, six of whom survive.
