- She married Paul LeGrand Johnstone, son of Robert LeGrand Johnstone and Caroline Ann Maclaren, on 14 June 1940 in New York City at St. Bartholomew's Protestant Episcopal Church.
- The following appeared on 15 June 1940 in The New York Times: The marriage of Miss Virginia Hemingway of 48 East Sixty-eighth Street, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Christian Hemingway of Bound Brook, N. J., and London, England, to Paul Le Grand Johnstone, son of Mrs. Rodney Stuart of Glen Ridge, N. J., and Stonington, Conn., and of the late Robert Le Grand Johnstone, took place here yesterday afternoon in St. Bartholomew's Protestant Episcopal Church. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Robert W. Woodroofe Jr.
Miss Mary Bullard of Fairfield, Conn., was maid of honor. The other bridal attendants were Mrs. Richard Hemingway, sister-in-law of the bride; the Misses Eilleen O'Malley of New York, Mimi Boal of Mexico City, Gertrude Skelly of Wilmington, Del; Joan Kinney of Morristown, N. J., and Barbara Frost of Southport, Conn. David Johnstone was best man for his brother.
A large reception was given at Sherry's. - Virginia Hemingway died in 1974.
