She graduated from the University of Houston in 1938. She married her high school sweetheart P.L. Cooper, Jr. on September 10, 1938. They resided in Houston before moving to Beaumont in 1946. Lolita began her teaching career at Rose Wahrmund's private school on West Lucus in 1955. She began teaching in the Beaumont school district in 1957, having taught at Longfellow, Averill, Fletcher and Dowling elementary schools. She retired in 1976 with 19 years of service. She spent the next several years traveling with P.L. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by her son, Percy Lewitt Cooper, III of Beaumont; daughters, Gloria Richardson and husband, Ron of Livingston, TX and Janice Christoffers and husband, Bob of Beaumont; three grandchildren, Lisa Dillon and husband, Scott of Round Rock, TX, Marc Richardson of Singapore and Daniel Christoffers of Beaumont; three great-grandchildren, Nick Williams, Caitlin and Catherine Dillon all of Round Rock, TX; sister, Margaret Jackson of Houston; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Bettie Cooper of Springdale, AR and five nieces and many cherished loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, P.L. Cooper, Jr., her parents, Alex and Ernestine Wood and brother, Ernest Wood. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 10:00 am in the Charles S. Kelley Chapel at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, TX. Visitation will begin Friday, at 5:00 pm at the funeral home. She has touched so many hearts with her beautiful smile, grateful spirit and never ending dedication to her family and friends. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the excellent care given by Dr. Keith Stout, Preferred Home Health and Odyssey Hospice. She was born in Houston on August 22, 1918 to Alex and Ernestine Wood. She graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1936 and the University of Houston with a degree in Mathematics in 1940. Margaret met Bonner Jackson at First Methodist Church and was married there in 1940. Margaret taught math in the Houston Public Schools and later worked beside Bonner at his pallet plant. For fifty years Margaret and Bonner's home in Bellaire was the place for holiday gatherings, summer vacations, and weekend fun for their family and extended family. Margaret poured her boundless energy and abilities into the comfort, security and betterment of her family, friends and church. Margaret is survived by her daughters Loretta Jackson Betts and Bonnie Jackson Brown, son-in-law Jim Brown, grandchildren Kristin and Jonathan Betts and Tanya Krolls, grandson-in-law Don Krolls, great-grandchildren Kayla and Connor Krolls, and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Bonner Jackson, her sister Lolita Cooper, her parents Alex and Ernestine Wood, and her brother Ernest Wood. Margaret was blessed in her final years to be attended and cared for by Ella Ball Nunn, Mina Trice, and Veronica Lee. They provided many things including comfort, joy and security. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 28, 2008 from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock at Bradshaw-Carter Home at 1734 West Alabama, Houston, Texas 77098. Funeral Services will be held on February 29, 2008 at ten-thirty in the morning at Bethany United Methodist Church 3511 Linkwood, Houston, Texas 77025. Internment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
